Research blog: Commercial Conventions

conventions are in everything basically being the common ways to do tasks, events and work with conventions they can be used to great affect and that's why they are so common in certain media like how in food videos they end with the food being circled around to see all of it that's a good example. finding out the conventions that my products have is tricky there are not many water bottle commercials out there mainly because everyone already knows that you need water to well live. but there are many different brands with different conventions people talk about there bottles being recyclable, how they are filled with clean water or how they always put emphasis on the bottles labeling. to begin one of the major conventions that i have noticed has always been how the water is always shown to be pure it makes sense because of how people do not exactly want there water to be contaminated with any foreign objects. it is smart to advertise your water in that way but the ways that they talk about how much better and more pure their water is is kind of weird they always like to play with words trying to make the water be more grand then it actually is and then making it more grand by comparing it to the sea. basically they always show the sea in their commercials there will always be a little time where the commercial cuts out to show a sea or a patch of water next to a bottle to do what i think is to show the bottle as more desirable. they also have a showing of water splashing down as well as sometimes plants, tress and tropical land being shown these types of commercials always want to make the water seam more exotic or special even though its just water. a good example being the FIJI water tv commercial natures gift. a commercial showing pictures of mountains and seas with a lot of plant life while the dialogue talks about how special the water is making the claim it is earths finest water. with this add it can at least be used to attract the type of people who want to fell better then others those who say they have better taste while in reality are drinking nothing but regular water either way this commercial gets its job done in an effective way by showing exotic places to fool people of their demographic. then there is always emphasis on the bottles labels  i know there is a reason for that mainly to make the brand more recognizable but they always like to brighten up the area where the label is its a quite common occurrence. and speaking of labels they always tilt the camea up or keep it straight when showing the water bottles looks it makes sense to show the water bottles in a good light even if no ones going to notice but its just an observation that i saw while watching a few commercial when i was searching. a convention i found for the type of bottles that I'm making my commercial on is how the bottles are always covered with a lot of water no mater if it was a plastic or metal water container they are always wet with drops of water falling on the side i guess they probably just put the container outside after putting it in a little ice water container. an example being the DASANI Plant Bottle:30 commercial with an entire commercial focusing on falling water with a little animated part to show the actual water bottle showing how this convention is used in actual marketing. its similar to those juice commercials mainly Gatorade in the sports commercials they always future in they are always shown to be very wet and when put down splash along the surface personally i think they do that to show more force as in those commercials are more intense, loud and full or energy. another normal thing is that when tragedies happen water company's benefit from them by doing commercial where they send water to areas of need showing how good their values are so customers will be more willing to buy. an example would be nestle waters tv commercial about bottled water donations to flint Michigan showing how charitable the company is how helpful they are in a time of crisis its a good tactic for good publicity and press. i remember that i noticed these type of commercial when i was younger and thought they where scummy for exploring others suffering but now well its just business and very good business at that water donation adds are adds that are very profitable so this convention is very good.my least favorite convention out of all of these is the whole comparing your water to the sea thing it makes the company look bad and pretentious and makes the product seam like the type of product only bought by people you would not want to associate yourself with. my favorite is most dependently the whole looking up at a water bottle thing i like the way they frame such an object as if it has a lot of importance and that's what I'm going to attempt to implement into my commercial. now thanks to these conventions different types of media have a base for wat they could be you can make sure you can be unique but you don't need to forget the fact that there are the base of what to do for a reason originality is good but you cant forget conventions
