title research: (horror) Halloween (1978)
I pascal bazile
apologize for doing this but in my opinion, I believe that the Halloween movie
had a good movie title sequence even if the movie is old and kind of outdated,
I searched this movie and found it on art of the title.com. And even if the
movie wasn’t the best, I’ve ever seen that goes to alien it was still great enough
to be a and that title that the movie has is a sequence that I deem as memorable
and the reason is more then the movies great musical score.
1. What titles are displayed during the opening
sequences?
In the title sequence
the only titles to be displayed are the names of the people who helped create
the film as well as the name of the movie itself. I personally fell that it is
very simple a little too simple to me, but it works by making it so that the
pumpkins nose looks like a knife that the eye being Michael is holding it’s a nice
touch. Even if the opening might not look impressive the entire pumpkin thing
is something that I personally love I always enjoyed the original even if it would
be kind of barebones for most people.
2. What images are prioritized in the opening
sequence?
The images prioritized
in the title sequence where of the pumpkin and the names of the people who
aided in the creation of the movie its very simple and eye-catching it works
well Adding the fact that and is good for setting the themes of the dark
atmosphere. It gives a sense of something ominous that is going to happen
making sure that people will be able to get what is going to happen and how the
movie is a simple horror movie.
3. What connotations do these images carry?
The connotations that the images in the
sequence carrying is kind of obvious it mainly being the holiday of Halloween
because of how the entire holiday is something that is very positively seen by
a minority of people. The holiday also has the connotations of it being dark
and scary so both connotations are being used when they were making this movie
to contrast the positive way people see the word and to emphasize the negative
way the word is seen. The pumpkin also emphasizes the Halloween theme that the
movie wanted to make people see and the fact that it is resurrecting gives it
an even more appropriate felling. Then there was the Halloween title its
perfect because of how simplistic it is some might say too simplistic, but it
works well because of how this movie is not that complicated so in the end it
is perfect. Even if it’s a small sequence it works well with this movie as a
reference to the original as well a s a way to show how this movie is Halloween
based, scary, and is a continuation of an old film.
4. How does the film establish a
feeling of the genre from the outset?
The
entire sequence is used in a way that gives people the best showing of how the
movie is going to be and as to how the quality of the movie would be as well.
It shows the dark atmosphere thanks to how dark the background colors are
giving this movie the theme of a dark tone compared to the pumpkin something knows
for Halloween. Then there is the pumpkin that shows as to how this movie will
relate to the holiday and the fact that I would most likely be based on the
fearful aspects thanks to it having Michael Myers with a knife on its face. With
it it sneakily shows the figure of the movie’s antagonist in the pumpkin
through the eye and the nose hole showing the killer of the movie Michael Myers
holding a knife completing what it needs to put in the horror fell. All those
components add up to make a very effective opening that perfectly comprises
this movie and did everything it could while also referencing the original
film.
5. What strategies are used to
ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
It has
a great musical score that perfectly does the whole dark felling that the movie
needed its impactful without it being very boisterous and it captures the
killer’s mannerisms with its repeating patterns it is fantastic for this music.
The dark background and the pumpkin appealing to horror fans because of how
similar it is to the original movie it works very well thanks to all that extra
work.
6. How has technology been used
effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing
techniques
It was
not use effectively it was just used in a way to focus in on the eye and nose
of the pumpkin they just used a basic zoom it’s not bad though because in the
end it works well.
