Genre Research: horror

hello my name is pascal bazile and in the beginning of the school year me and my class where told your teacher to present a PowerPoint showing different filming words as either pictures or videos it is an assignment that I failed to do originally out of a lack of time. after that project we were told that we would need to use these different words and to find examples of these words and the specific classification of these words in movies a specific genre. I chose the horror genre because I thought it would be easy and it was mainly because of how in the horror genre nowadays it is always the same uninspired thing most of the time so with them being the same research would not be that hard. It was easy enough when researching what kind of camera light is usually used low key lighting to show the fact that it has a dark tone and three-point lighting when we need to focus on the face of the character that the film is currently following. While in very rare circumstances in movies they use high key lighting to try to contrast the bright colors with the dark tone, but I can’t put high key lighting in the list of different lighting techniques used because of how rare it is used in horror films. Next one was on camera angles it was easy because in horror the birds eye view and the tracking shot are both used for tracking characters close ups high angles and low angles to see character faces and reactions tilts to create a sort of nauseating felling and zooms for either a reaction or to focus on an item. Next was movement simple enough walking and running both happening in almost every movie to exist but also climbing, crawling, shooting and stabbing reserved for murder mysteries potential dramas or horror movies with a killer using a weapon. Mis-En-Scene is very tricky with how many different things I will need to point out so to start I viewed the behind the scene videos of multiple horror movies to get enough info for the costumes. The costumes are either for monsters/antagonists both humanoid and ones more animalistic and for regular peoples designs they could be futuristic or normal depending on what setting the movie has. I already explained the lighting in my lighting segment so skipping to the acting in a majority of horror movies it is common to see a lot of bad acting from the movies cast while on rare occasions some movies cast can be great and be filled with talented actors being good and believable sadly this is not common in horror movies. The setting in horror movies are either in small areas, land, or houses I was inspired to put that thanks to the Friday the 13^th movies I also put in large locations like cities thanks to the movie world war z inspiring me putting that option. Horror movies have a lot of different elements them being used in many different types of horror movies I put examples those being A dark tone​, violence​, characters in terrible situations​, as well as different monsters or killers as antagonists​. I already said this before, but they have Dark lighting and sometimes light lighting to give a false sense of security​, many dead characters, some comedy added in for certain movies​, scary symbols​, suspenseful​, and they use sound in creative ways. One of the main things in horror movies and the most common element was stupid characters I saw a lot of those when researching to complete the PowerPoint. The list I just gave where the only things I thought about during that short time ​that I had to put many there but, in the end, those are the main elements of many horror movies. Theni needed to put many examples of different type of horror movies the ones I put where specifically The thing​,(2016)it​,The conjuring​,The quiet place​,28 days later​,The Friday the 13 series​,The Halloween series​,The belco experiment​,The purge series​,The saw series​ and The Texas chainsaw massacre series. The last examples of horror movie elements I put was creating sound design so the next slide I put in the souls heard in horror movies those being the spilling of liquid (mainly blood)​,tearing of skin​,bones breaking​,victims screams​,circlets​,alarms​,metal breaking​,as well as the sound of fire​ in specific situations. The second to last slide was opinionated on what I liked and dislike from the horror movie genre I personally chose the creative kills​, the dark atmosphere smart characters succeeding and stupid ones die​,The settings so I can imagine what I would do​,The suspense​,The monsters/antagonists​, and how funny they could be especially when they are bad. And for the final slide I just said what I disliked those being a lot of Bad acting​,bad writing​,stupid characters​,stupid and awful CGI​,boring antagonists​,very and I mean very stupid logic to make the protagonists come out on top​, and worst of all Bad remakes and sequels.
